Fushimi Inari-Taisha

FUSHIMI INARI

The very touristically popular sanctuary of Fushimi Inari-taicha in Kyoto, with the horde of tourists that comes to see the 10000 torii gates of the thirteen shrines spanned along the 4km trail that goes up the mountain. Mixed with the japanese faithfuls that come to bring offerings for fortune and good luck, the place is rapidly full early in the day and one must arm himself with patience to get a photograph with the torii gates emptied of people.

"First and foremost, Inari is the god of rice, but merchants and manufacturers have traditionally worshiped Inari as the patron of business. Each of the torii at Fushimi Inari Taisha has been donated by a Japanese business...
... Foxes (kitsune), regarded as the messengers, are often found in Inari shrines. One attribute is a key (for the rice granary) in their mouths." (source: wikipedia

While I visited the shrine, the Japanese high-school students were visiting to give offerings to be granted success for the school year to come.
